Hey guys and gals, yes, it is Monday morning, but, for me, it’s an awesome day. This weekend was, without a doubt, the nerdiest weekend ever. I went to the Comic Book Store, count them, three fucking times. Not only that, but I was able to get three different Video Game/Comic Book combo books, two new comic book series, and a few more books I’ve been looking for.
The first new release I got was Thanos Rising, which is a 5 book series which was released this week from Marvel. It is about a new supervillain, Thanos, and it basically covers Thanos’ life, from birth to young adulthood. So far, I am pretty interested, the writers have done a good job building the character, giving him a decent personality, and also provided the readers a reason to like him. I’ll definitely continue to follow this series. The second new series I bought is called Miss Fury, and it is from Dynamite. In the store, Miss Dynamite definitely caught my eye, the variant cover is quite impressive. It stars Marla Drake, a 1940’s debutant from New York. All of the money and parties have bored her, and she turns into a thief and a super hero. Apparently, Miss Fury was originally released in 1943 and ran until 1945, and I enjoyed the first issue, so I’ll probably be keeping up with this series as well.
During my second trip to the Comic Book Store, with friend of the Filter RustyNova, I was able to score issues #3 and #4 of the Mass Effect Homeworld series, and on my Sunday trip, I was able to come up with issues #1 and 2. Homeworld is a short, 4 issue series that tells the backstory of Garrus, James Vega, Tali, and Liara, from Dark Horse. I’ve read 2 of the issues, and they’re well done and very interesting. I am, as some of you may know, a huge Mass Effect fan, so it is no surprise. The second, and most intriguing is the first issue of The Last of Us from Dark Horse as well. This series is a prequel to the upcoming Video Game from Naughty Dog. The first issue isn’t heavy on exposition, but I have big hopes for this series, so hopefully the pace picks up, but it does have me very excited for the upcoming video game release. The last Video Game/Comic Book that I bought was Injustice: Gods Among Us. The reason I was interested in this series is because Injustice is supposed to be a fighting game, but it has a story to it. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, so I’ll update you all next week, in getting ready for the release of the game.
So, in between Comic Books this weekend, I attempted to play Defiance, the TV series based MMO. To be honest, I was really enjoying the game, for the most part, despite the wonky controls, the questionable graphics, and the shoddy servers, but the number of glitches has drained the fun from the game. Hopefully, Ni No Kuni shows up tomorrow so I can enjoy gaming again. I am actually dreading reviewing Defiance, there’s too many questions I have, I wanted it to be better, I wanted to like it, and I wanted to rate it highly, but I don’t think I can. Tune in tomorrow for the review. Have a great day guys and gals, be good to each other.
